My local take

Princess Senses The Mangrove opened in 2024 at Green Island, Hanover, as the adults-only half of a two-resort site. Its neighbor is Princess Grand Jamaica, a 590-suite family resort. The Mangrove has 401 ocean-view suites, 11 pools including a rooftop infinity pool, its own restaurants, a nightclub and a piano bar, and the 14 overwater villas with private infinity pools and partial glass floors. It closed after Hurricane Melissa and reopened on February 1, 2026. My take: it suits couples and friends who want a lively, new adults-only resort with lots of choice, and anyone who has wanted an overwater villa without flying to the Maldives.

Here’s how the sharing works, from Princess’s own pages. As a Mangrove guest you can use Princess Grand’s restaurants, bars, pools and other facilities, except its Platinum services. Princess Grand guests can’t come the other way, so The Mangrove’s restaurants, bars and pools stay adults-only. Each resort’s Platinum Club is for its own Platinum guests only. The catch: Princess Grand is a family resort, so if you eat or swim on that side, expect children around you. If you want no children anywhere on the site, this isn’t the right pick.

If it’s not quite right, look at Couples Negril for a calmer adults-only resort on Bloody Bay, or Royalton Hideaway Negril. More options: the best adults-only all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica and overwater bungalows in Jamaica.

What stands out

  • Adults only (18+), with its own restaurants, bars and pools that Princess Grand guests can't use.
  • 14 overwater villas with private infinity pools, partial glass floors and 24-hour butler service.
  • Mangrove guests can also use everything at Princess Grand next door except its Platinum services, so the choice of restaurants is wide.
  • Nightlife on site: a rooftop bar with infinity pool, a piano bar and the Illusion nightclub.
  • About 55 km from Montego Bay airport, and gratuities and Wi-Fi are included.

What to know before booking

  • It shares a site with a 590-suite family resort, and the Princess Grand side has children around.
  • Room service and the spa cost extra unless you're in a Platinum suite.
  • KA Teppanyaki needs a reservation.
  • With 401 suites, plus the family resort next door, it's a big, busy complex rather than a hideaway.
  • Green Island is a drive from Negril's beach strip and from Montego Bay, so nights out mean a taxi.

Rooms

Every room is a suite with a furnished balcony or terrace. Deluxe junior suites have a king or two queens plus a sofa bed and a designer bathtub; swim-out versions open onto a semi-private pool. Pleasure junior suites, with a round bed and a hot tub on the balcony, come with the O’Club experience: a private pool, dance classes including pole dancing, mixology classes, hookah and themed parties. Platinum suites add butler service, the Platinum lounge, a private pool and beach area and premium drinks. The overwater villas sit over the sea with a private infinity pool, partial glass floor, 24-hour butler and, according to Princess, airport transfers and VIP lounge access included.

Food & drink

The Mangrove’s own restaurants include the Food Market buffet, The Pearl for seafood, KA Teppanyaki (reservations needed), Umami for sushi and Robert’s Flame steakhouse, plus two Platinum restaurants for Platinum guests. On top of that, you can eat at Princess Grand’s Italian, Mexican, Jamaican-Caribbean and Asian-fusion restaurants, its beach buffet and its food trucks. Bars on The Mangrove side include the rooftop bar with infinity pool, the Blue Note piano bar, The Flavour Lounge for wine, the Illusion nightclub and a 24-hour coffee shop. Check the dress code for each à la carte restaurant before dinner. My take: keep your dinners on The Mangrove side if a grown-up evening matters to you, and use the Grand side for lunch.

Pool & beach

The resort is right on the beach at Green Island, with waiter service on the beach and at the pools, and kayaking and snorkeling included. Princess lists 11 pools, including the rooftop infinity pool. Mangrove guests can also use Princess Grand’s pools and its Wild Princess water park, which are shared with families. The Senses Luxurious Spa, at extra cost, has a sauna, steam bath, hot tub, indoor hydrotherapy pool, 12 treatment rooms and 5 massage cabins.

Location

Green Island is in Hanover, on the coast road between Lucea and Negril. Princess puts the resort about 55 km from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, around an hour from Montego Bay and 30 minutes from Negril. From here, Rick’s Café on the West End cliffs is the sunset trip to make, and Seven Mile Beach is worth an afternoon. See where to stay in Negril for the wider area.
