About Jamaica Hotel Review

I’m Michael Rainford. I was born and raised in Jamaica, and I started Jamaica Hotel Review in January 2017 after relatives planning a trip kept asking me the same questions: which resort, which part of the island, and what’s worth the drive.

The site still does that one job. It helps you pick the right resort and the right part of Jamaica, the way a Jamaican friend would: who a place suits, who should skip it, and what to know before you book.

Most of what you read here comes from living in Jamaica, not from a hotel stay. When a guide mentions a visit, it’s one I made, with the month on the page, and the photos are mine unless the credit says otherwise. I never claim a stay, a meal or a visit that didn’t happen. The facts come from official sources listed and dated on every page, and the opinions come from knowing the island.

How we research

  1. Local knowledge first

Every guide starts from what I know of Jamaica as someone born and raised here: the areas, the roads between them, and who each place suits.

  2. Facts from official sources

Room counts, restaurants, policies, opening hours and prices come from the hotel or attraction itself, or from official bodies. If I can't source a fact, it doesn't go on the page.

  3. A clear verdict, downsides included

Every guide says who a place suits, who should skip it and what to know before booking, from the sourced facts and local knowledge. No scores, and no claimed stays or visits that did not happen; real visits are dated on the page.

  4. Re-checked on a schedule

Guides are checked again over time. The "Facts checked" date shows the oldest fact on the page, and the update log says what changed.

What I don’t do

  • Claim stays, meals or visits I didn't have.
  • Give scores or star ratings.
  • Copy or quote guest reviews.
  • Let a hotel pay for a place in a guide or on a list.
  • Leave a fact I couldn't confirm on a live page.

How this site makes money

Right now this site has no paid links, sponsored posts or affiliate links. Nobody pays to be included, and no hotel has seen a guide before it was published. If that ever changes, this box will say so and every page with a paid link will carry a disclosure above it.
