My local take

Bambuza is a newer name on the western adventure circuit, but it is not a pop-up. It is a privately run park on 46 acres of bamboo, river and hillside inland from Green Island, on the Hanover side of the Negril area. The Jamaica Observer covered it as an adventure park in June 2024, the Tourist Board lists it, and its own booking calendar was taking tours when checked in October 2026. The Tourist Board’s reopenings list, updated February 9, 2026, shows it open after Hurricane Melissa.

The draw is that everything happens on one property: ATV trails through mud and bamboo, zip lines over the riverbeds, a horseback ride, and a waterfall on the river that every tour includes. That makes it a simpler morning than piecing together separate excursions. It is smaller and more rustic than Jamwest near Little London, which has the race track, the bigger water park and the longer list of activities. My take: pick Bambuza if you want bamboo, river and countryside with your ride, and Jamwest if you want speed and more choice. One activity plus the waterfall is plenty for most people; the three-tour combo is a long, muddy day.

For a slower, cultural side of rural Westmoreland, look at the RastaSafari Experience near Roaring River. If you want the bigger park, see Jamwest Adventure Park. For hotels and the rest of the area, see my Negril guide.

How to get there

From Negril: Bambuza is in the hills behind Green Island, roughly 16 km from the Negril roundabout in a straight line (map distance). Bambuza gives the drive as about 20 minutes. Its tours include hotel pickup, so from the beach strip, or from the Green Island resorts such as Princess Grand Jamaica on the coast road below, you don’t need a car. Confirm the pickup time when you book.

From Lucea and Montego Bay: Bambuza puts it about 25 minutes from Lucea, which makes it one of the closest adventure parks to Grand Palladium in Hanover, and about 55 minutes from Montego Bay. From Montego Bay, treat it as a half-day trip at least.

Driving yourself: Bambuza’s site gives Google Maps directions from Negril, Lucea, Montego Bay and farther away. The last stretch is on country roads inland from the coast road at Green Island; take it slowly.

What to expect

The tours. Bambuza sells three activities, each with waterfall access and hotel pickup included. The ATV Motocross ride goes over muddy hills and bamboo trails (US$130). The Zipline Adventure runs over the bamboo forest and riverbeds (US$120). Horseback riding follows trails through the bamboo groves and forest (US$110). Any two cost US$165 and all three US$190. These are the prices listed on Bambuza’s site in October 2026; check them when you book.

The waterfall and the grounds. After the ride, guests cool off at the waterfall on the river. The Tourist Board listing mentions bamboo forest, trails and dining on site, and Bambuza’s site also lists hiking. The Observer’s report describes horses, donkeys and chickens roaming the grounds and a very large Jamaican flag that has become the park’s photo spot.

Booking. You book a date and start time on Bambuza’s online calendar or by phone on 876-333-3338. The calendar showed 9 am and 11 am starts when checked. The site also has a separate web deals page with tourist and local options; ask about a local rate if you live in Jamaica.

Local tips

  • Wear clothes and shoes you don't mind ruining. The ATV trails are muddy by design, and you will want swimwear under your clothes for the waterfall.
  • Bring a dry change of clothes and a towel for the ride back to your hotel.
  • Book the 9 am start if you can. You get the cooler part of the day and the afternoon free for the beach.
  • Book on Bambuza's own site or by phone and compare with reseller prices; the same tour sells for different amounts on different platforms.
  • Carry a little cash for tips and drinks, and keep your phone in a waterproof pouch on the ATV and at the falls.

Before you go

  • ATVs, zip lines and horses carry real risk. Follow the guides and the safety briefing.
  • Bambuza advises anyone pregnant, injured or with a medical condition to check the tour requirements before booking, and to ask about age and weight limits for the zip line and ATV.
  • It is a rural property on country roads: expect mud, insects and uneven ground.
  • Not suited to wheelchair users or anyone who can’t manage rough, wet ground.
  • The Tourist Board places it in Green Island, Hanover, while tour sellers often say Negril. It is the same place, inland from Green Island.
