My local take

Princess Grand Jamaica opened in 2024 on the coast at Green Island, Hanover, roughly halfway between Negril and Montego Bay. It’s a big family resort: 590 suites, the Wild Princess water park with four slides, a kids’ club with seven play areas, a games room for teens and a long list of restaurants. It closed after Hurricane Melissa and reopened on March 1, 2026. My take: it suits families who want a modern resort where the children are busy from breakfast to dinner. If you want Negril’s beach bars and cliffs on your doorstep, stay on Seven Mile Beach instead. Negril is about 30 minutes away by road.

It shares the site with the adults-only Princess Senses The Mangrove, and people often book one thinking they get both. Princess is clear that access only runs one way: Mangrove guests can use Princess Grand’s facilities, but Princess Grand guests can’t use The Mangrove’s. The Platinum clubs at each resort are for that resort’s Platinum guests only. Spa treatments are at extra cost, and Princess says the main Senses spa at The Mangrove serves Princess Grand guests too. Jamaica’s first licensed casino is also coming here: the licence was granted in July 2026, and the tourism minister expects it to open in the last quarter of the year. Until it actually opens, don’t book for it.

If it’s not quite right, look at Grand Palladium at Point Lucea, also in Hanover, with a children’s water park and kids’ clubs, or Riu Negril on Bloody Bay for a simpler family option. More options: the best all-inclusive family resorts in Jamaica and Jamaica resorts with water parks.

What stands out

  • The Wild Princess water park has four slides, two pools, a splash pool and its own bar.
  • A kids' club for ages 3 to 12 with seven play areas, and a games area for teens 13 and over.
  • New-build resort (2024), with family junior suites with bunk beds and two-bedroom master suites for up to six.
  • Plenty of choice at dinner: Italian, Mexican, Jamaican-Caribbean and Asian fusion, with no reservations needed.
  • About 55 km from Montego Bay airport, closer than the Negril resorts.
  • Gratuities and Wi-Fi are included, and the coffee shop is open 24 hours.

What to know before booking

  • Princess Grand guests can't use the restaurants, pools or bars at Princess Senses The Mangrove next door; access only runs the other way (spa treatments are the exception).
  • With 590 suites, it's big and busy rather than quiet.
  • Room service carries a delivery fee for non-Platinum guests, and the spa is extra.
  • Princess doesn't offer connecting or adjacent rooms, and you can book at most three rooms per reservation.
  • Green Island is a drive from Negril's beach strip and from Montego Bay, so evenings out mean a taxi.

Rooms

Every room is a suite. Princess Junior Suites have a king or two queens plus a sofa bed, a 55-inch TV and a furnished balcony, for up to four people; the swim-out versions open onto a semi-private pool. Family junior suites have boat-shaped bunk beds, which Princess says are a favorite with children. Luxury junior suites with hydro-massage are for two. Platinum junior suites, Imperial master suites and two-bedroom master suites (up to six, with a hot tub on the balcony) come with Platinum Club benefits and butler service. Princess doesn’t offer connecting or adjacent rooms, so larger families should look at the two-bedroom master suite.

Food & drink

The Food Market buffet does breakfast, lunch and dinner, and The Reef serves a buffet lunch on the beach. For dinner there are four à la carte restaurants: Il Palazzo (Italian), El Delirio (Mexican), Jamrock (Jamaican-Caribbean) and Fusion 360 (Asian fusion), with no reservations needed. Food trucks serve snacks by the pool and beach in the afternoon, the MVP sports bar serves food until 9 pm for all ages (adults only after that), and the Blue Mountain coffee shop is open 24 hours. Children can eat in all the themed restaurants. Dinner is resort smart elegant: long pants or dress shorts, closed shoes and collared shirts for men. My take: eat at least one meal off the resort too. The jerk and fish spots on the road toward Negril are part of the reason to come to this side of the island.

Pool & beach

The resort is on the beach, with kayaking and snorkeling included. Princess lists a main pool with a hot tub, a family pool with a children’s area, and the Wild Princess water park with four slides, two pools and a splash pool. The rooftop infinity pool is for Platinum guests only. Pool and beach towels are provided.

Location

Green Island is in Hanover, on the coast road between Lucea and Negril. Princess puts the resort about 55 km from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, around an hour from Montego Bay and 30 minutes from Negril. Princess offers a free shared airport shuttle for stays of three nights or more booked on its own website; check the current terms when you book. From here, Rick’s Café and Seven Mile Beach are an easy half-day out, and Doctor’s Cave Beach Club in Montego Bay is about an hour away. See where to stay in Negril for the wider area.
