My local take

Grand Lido is a small, private naturist resort: 26 ocean-facing suites in their own enclave beside Royalton Negril, clothing-free, and for guests 21 and over. It’s run by Royalton, so you also get the restaurants, bars and spa of Royalton Negril and its adults-only Hideaway next door, as long as you dress to go over there. My take: it suits naturist couples and singles who want a calm, upscale setting with clear rules. If you want parties and theme nights, or you just want a regular adults-only beach holiday, this isn’t the one.

The house rules are strict and spelled out on the official site: carry a towel and sit on it, no photos or phones used as cameras, no gawking, no sexual advances, and no intimate behavior in public areas. Staff deal with complaints straight away, and guests who break the rules can be removed without a refund. Negril has long been the most relaxed corner of Jamaica about this, and Grand Lido is the quieter, more formal end of it.

If it’s not quite right, Hedonism II is the bigger, livelier clothing-optional option on the same beach, and Royalton Hideaway Negril next door is the conventional adults-only choice. More options: the best adults-only all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica.

What stands out

  • Only 26 suites, all ocean-facing, in a private enclave: small and quiet by Negril all-inclusive standards.
  • Butler service in every suite category, plus an in-suite Jacuzzi tub and 24/7 room service.
  • Access to 12 restaurants and nine bars across the three resorts, including Reggae Bar & Grill for Grand Lido guests only.
  • Clear, strictly enforced rules on photography, behavior and respect, set out on the official site.
  • A dry beach area for Grand Lido guests with waiter service, and swim-out suites with a private pool.

What to know before booking

  • Clothing-free is the point: you'll need to dress to use the restaurants, bars and spa at the neighboring Royalton resorts.
  • Minimum check-in age is 21, higher than most adults-only resorts in Jamaica.
  • No photos at all, phones included, so plan on leaving holiday pictures for elsewhere in Negril.
  • With only 26 suites, the Grand Lido areas themselves are small; most dining is next door.
  • The Club MoBay airport service needs a booking at least 60 days ahead and isn't guaranteed.

Rooms

Grand Lido lists 26 ocean-facing suites, all with butler service. The Sunset Ocean View Suite has a king or two queen beds, an in-suite Jacuzzi soaker tub, a rain shower, dual sinks, a sofa bed and a balcony or terrace facing the sea. The Sunset Swim Out Suite has the same layout with a private swim-out pool beyond the terrace. Both take up to three adults. At the top is the Luxury Penthouse One Bedroom Suite, with a walk-in closet, an indoor Jacuzzi, two bathrooms and a large rooftop Jacuzzi. Every suite has 24/7 room service, satellite TV, a safe, USB charging and free Wi-Fi. You can pick your room number in advance through Royalton’s online room selection.

Food & drink

Grand Lido’s own spot is Reggae Bar & Grill, open 10 am to 6 pm, Jamaican food and cocktails, with an au naturel dress code. Everything else is at Royalton Negril and Hideaway next door, where you dress for dinner: Gourmet Marché buffet, Hunter Steakhouse, Grazie Italian trattoria, Zen teppanyaki and sushi, Armadillo Tex-Mex, Calypso for Jamaican food, Ocean Point Bistro, Scoops café and the Score sports bar. The seven-course C/X chef’s table costs extra. Grand Lido guests get preferential reservations at the à la carte restaurants. My take: book Calypso early in the week, then compare it with the jerk you’ll find on the road into the West End.

Pool & beach

Grand Lido has its own secluded pool and a dry beach area for its guests with waiter service, poolside hors d’oeuvres and snacks in the afternoon, and cold towels. Swim-out suites have a private pool off the terrace. Water sports are run with the neighboring resorts: snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, catamarans and introductory scuba lessons, plus beach volleyball and tennis. Remember the clothing rule changes once you cross into the Royalton side.

Location

Grand Lido sits beside Royalton Negril on Seven Mile Beach. The resort puts the drive from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay at about an hour and 15 minutes. Book the Club MoBay arrival service at least 60 days ahead if you want it. You’re close to Seven Mile Beach and Rick’s Café on the West End cliffs, where locals will tell you to get there an hour before sunset for a seat. See where to stay in Negril for the wider area.
