My local take
Sandals South Coast sits on its own stretch of beach at Whitehouse in Westmoreland, beside a 500-acre nature reserve, far from the north-coast resort strip. It’s the Sandals with overwater bungalows. Hurricane Melissa came ashore in the southwest in October 2025, and the resort has been closed since. Sandals now says it reopens on Nov 18, 2026, the date the Jamaica Tourist Board also lists, and it’s taking bookings from then.
Sandals is using the closure for a refurbishment it calls “South Coast Reimagined”: new landscaping, a new pool, Butch’s Island Chophouse and the Blum coffee bar. In June 2026 Travelweek reported that the 380-room resort is bringing back its Overwater Butler Villas with refreshed interiors, debuting the brand’s first Beachfront Club Two Queen Junior Suites, and adding a new rum bar. Sandals notes that renderings and product details are subject to change.
My take: book it for a stay after the reopening if the overwater villas are the draw, and give the first weeks some slack while a rebuilt resort finds its feet. I’ll update this page once it’s open.
