My local take

Iberostar Waves Rose Hall Beach is the largest of the three Iberostar resorts that share one beachfront complex on the Rose Hall coast, east of Montego Bay. It’s the plain all-inclusive of the three: standard rooms rather than suites, a buffet plus Italian, Japanese and jerk, two pools and Star Camp for children up to 15. My take: it suits families who want a short transfer and a reliable beach base without paying for a suite. If you want more space, or a resort without children, look at its neighbors.

Be precise about what’s shared. Iberostar says guests at Iberostar Selection Rose Hall Suites can use the facilities and restaurants at Waves, and Waves Penthouse Suite guests can use Rose Hall Suites. Iberostar’s Waves page doesn’t promise Rose Hall Suites access to other Waves rooms, so ask before you book if the Aquafun water play area or the extra restaurants matter to you. The adults-only JOIA Rose Hall next door is closed for renovation until December 1, 2026.

If it’s not quite right, look at Ocean Coral Spring near Falmouth for a family resort with a water park and lazy river, or Rose Hall Suites for an all-suite stay in the same complex. More options: the best all-inclusive family resorts in Jamaica.

What stands out

  • Iberostar puts it 15 minutes from Montego Bay airport, one of the shortest transfers on the island.
  • Star Camp runs four age groups, from toddlers with a parent up to 15-year-olds.
  • Two Bedroom Family rooms of 905 sq ft are two connecting rooms, each with its own balcony.
  • An infinity pool with a swim-up bar, plus a children's pool.
  • A PADI dive center on site, and the Montego Bay Marine Park close by.
  • Jerk hut, beach snack bar and ice cream shop alongside the buffet and two à la carte restaurants.

What to know before booking

  • À la carte dinners are capped by length of stay: one reservation for 3 nights or less, three for a week or more.
  • Most rooms are standard 450 sq ft rooms, not suites.
  • The spa, babysitting and diving cost extra.
  • Iberostar only promises Rose Hall Suites access to Penthouse Suite guests at Waves; check before counting on the sister resort's facilities.

Rooms

Most rooms are Premium rooms of 450 sq ft, with a king bed or two doubles, a balcony or terrace and garden, pool or ocean views. Every room has daily minibar service, a coffee maker, free Wi-Fi, a TV and air conditioning, and all rooms are non-smoking, with a cleaning fee if you smoke inside or on the balcony. Families should look at the Two Bedroom Family: two connecting rooms of 905 sq ft in total, one with a king and one with two doubles, with baby items on request. Junior Suites Ocean Front (530 sq ft) and the 2,090 sq ft Penthouse Suite Ocean Front add access to the spa’s hydrotherapy area.

Food & drink

Iberostar lists a buffet with Jamaican dishes and a rotisserie, Olivetti (Italian), Samurai (Japanese, with teppanyaki), the One Love Jerk Hut, the Chill Out beach snack bar and Happy Cones ice cream. Bars include the Deep Blue swim-up bar, a lobby bar with a piano player, a show bar, a sports bar and Fiction nightclub. À la carte dinners need a reservation and are capped by stay length: one for 3 nights or less, two for 4 to 6 nights, three for 7 nights or more. Men need long pants or Bermuda shorts and a sleeved shirt at dinner. My take: go to the jerk hut first. It is built and cooked the Jamaican way, and it’s where you’ll get the most local food on the property.

Pool & beach

The resort is on the beach, with water sports and rental equipment there. Iberostar lists two outdoor pools, including an infinity pool with the Deep Blue swim-up bar, and a children’s pool and playground. SPA Sensations has a hydrotherapy area with a sauna and thalassotherapy pool, at extra cost. The gym is for ages 16 and over, and there are tennis courts.

Location

Waves is on Rose Hall Main Road at Little River, east of Montego Bay, in one beachfront complex with Iberostar Selection Rose Hall Suites and JOIA Rose Hall. Iberostar puts the airport 15 minutes away. Rose Hall Great House and the golf courses at Rose Hall are close, and Half Moon is a short drive west. For a night out, the Hip Strip in Montego Bay is a taxi ride away. See where to stay in Montego Bay for the wider area.
