My local take
Royalton Blue Waters sits on the Trelawny coast east of Montego Bay, on the way to Falmouth. It’s a family resort of 225 suites with a pirate-themed water park, a lazy river, a kids’ club for ages 4 to 12 and a teen club. My take: it suits families who want the children busy in the water and a transfer of about 35 minutes, not the 75 minutes or more to Negril or Ocho Rios.
Know how the property works. The adults-only Royalton Hideaway Blue Waters, with 352 suites, is next door, and Hideaway guests can use everything here. You can’t go the other way: Hideaway’s own restaurants, pools and beach area are kept for Hideaway guests. Royalton also says some restaurants are being renovated and may be served at other venues, so check what’s open at check-in.
If it’s not quite right, look at Hotel Riu Palace Aquarelle, a newer family resort with a water park and two-bedroom family rooms near Falmouth, or Royalton Negril on Seven Mile Beach. More options: Jamaica hotels with a water park and the best all-inclusive family resorts in Jamaica.

Rooms
All 225 rooms are suites, with a DreamBed, rain shower, balcony or terrace, satellite TV, a minibar restocked daily and 24-hour room service. Royalton lists Jacuzzi tubs in presidential suites and up. Luxury junior suites are 570 sq ft, with a king plus sofa bed or two queens, and take up to four, in garden view, ocean view or swim-out. Bigger families should look at the presidential one-bedroom (1,184 sq ft), the presidential two-bedroom (1,754 sq ft, up to eight guests) or the Chairman’s suite with two or three bedrooms. Diamond Club suites add a butler and access to the Diamond Club lounge and beach area.
Food & drink
Royalton lists nine restaurants: Gourmet Marché buffet with a kids’ corner, Grazie Italian, Hunter Steakhouse, Taj Indian, Zen teppanyaki and sushi, SCORE sports bar, a Jerk Hut on the beach, Scoops for coffee and gelato, and the C/X chef’s table, which costs extra. Royalton notes that some restaurants are being renovated and may be served at other venues. My take: the Indian restaurant is the one to book; it’s something you rarely find at a Jamaican all-inclusive.
Pool & beach
The water park is the main event: slides, splash areas, a pirate-themed play zone and a lazy river. The resort is on the beach, with beach drink service, kayaks and paddleboards included, and the Chills swim-up bar at the pool. Diamond Club guests have a private beach area with its own bar. Hideaway’s pools and beach next door are for Hideaway guests only.
Location
The resort is on the A1 coast road at Mountain Spring in Trelawny, between Montego Bay and Falmouth, and Royalton puts the drive from Sangster International Airport at about 35 minutes. It’s well placed for the Luminous Lagoon at night, Martha Brae river rafting and the Rose Hall Great House. Locals will tell you to do the lagoon on a dark night, when the glow is strongest.
