My local take
Locals still call this the old Holiday Inn. It became Catalonia Montego Bay after Catalonia Hotels & Resorts bought it in 2024, closed after Hurricane Melissa in October 2025, and is now set to become Marriott’s first all-inclusive in Montego Bay. In July 2026, Marriott and Catalonia announced a 522-room Marriott all-inclusive with 13 places to eat, three pools and a lazy river, scheduled to open in 2028, according to the Gleaner and the Observer.
The dates don’t agree. On September 15, 2026, the Jamaica Information Service listed “Catalonia, formerly Holiday Inn” among the properties scheduled to reopen in the first quarter of 2027. That may mean a reopening under the Catalonia name before the conversion, or the list may be out of date; neither company has said which in anything we’ve seen. The Jamaica Tourist Board lists it as closed. My take: plan around 2028 as a Marriott, not early 2027, and don’t book until either company opens reservations.
For an all-inclusive near the airport that’s open now, look at Riu Montego Bay (adults only) or, for families, Iberostar Waves Rose Hall Beach. More options: the best all-inclusive resorts in Montego Bay.
