My local take
Here is exactly what has been said about the reopening, and by whom. The Jamaica Tourist Board lists it as “Reopening 2027” with no date. In April 2026 Hyatt told travel partners its seven Jamaica resorts would reopen in early 2027, with a date for each to come later, the Gleaner reported on April 10, 2026. At JAPEX in September, Melissa Forbes, Hyatt’s director of sales and marketing for Hyatt Ziva and Zilara Rose Hall, told the Gleaner that the resorts will return in phases during the first half of 2027, later than the March 2027 target they had been working to. Travel Market Report’s JAPEX report, published a few days later, said instead that the Hyatt openings had moved from the first quarter to the second half of 2027.
Jewel Grande has been closed since Hurricane Melissa in October 2025. It opened in 2017 as a family-friendly Jamaican-owned resort of beachfront towers and villas across from the Montego Bay Convention Centre, and it is now part of Hyatt’s Jewel brand. Kaylia Harrison of Hyatt told JIS in September 2026 that Jewel Grande is the one for smaller groups, longer stays and gatherings. My take: that suits family reunions and friends traveling together, but wait for a firm date before you book. I’ll update this page when Hyatt confirms one.
