Club Mobay VIP Lounge at Montego Bay Airport

Club Mobay is the paid VIP service at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, where most visitors to Jamaica land. You can book it for arrival, departure or both: on arrival, someone meets you off the plane and fast-tracks you through immigration and customs; on departure, you skip the security line and wait for your flight in a lounge with food and drinks included.

What Club Mobay is

Club Mobay isn’t an airline or credit card lounge. Anyone can buy access, whatever airline or class you’re flying. Sangster’s own airport site describes it as a set of departure and arrival lounges, each themed around a piece of Jamaican history and culture: leaders, sports stars, food, plants and artifacts. It’s run by VIP Attractions, which also runs Club Kingston in the main terminal at Norman Manley in Kingston.

Club Mobay’s departure lounge opens daily from 4am to 10pm, according to the official site, with hours subject to change with seasonal flight schedules.

Arrival service: meet and greet

This is the one that makes the biggest difference. Montego Bay’s immigration hall can back up badly when several flights land at once. With the arrival service, according to VIP Attractions:

• An agent meets you as you get off the plane and helps with your airport forms.
• You go through immigration and customs in a fast-track lane, and they help you collect your luggage.
• You wait in the arrival lounge with snacks, soft drinks, local beer and a signature cocktail, plus Wi-Fi and private restrooms, while they coordinate with your transfer.

The arrival lounge is small on purpose: it’s a place to catch your breath until your ride shows up, not somewhere to spend the afternoon.

Departure service: fast track and lounge

On the way home, the departure service gets you fast-track access through security and into the departure lounge. VIP Attractions lists these as included:

• Food and drinks, including alcohol: snacks, sandwiches, pastries, fruit and a bar
• Wi-Fi, flight monitors and boarding announcements
• Shower suites with towels and toiletries, plus private restrooms and changing rooms
• Free calls to landlines in the US, Canada and the UK
• At Club Mobay only: a children’s play area, an adults-only lounge and a spa (treatments cost extra)

There’s also a curbside departure service at extra cost, where an agent meets you at the curb and helps you through check-in and on to the lounge.

Prices change from time to time, so check the total in the booking form before you pay.

How to book

• Book online through the VIP Attractions site or app, choosing Montego Bay (Club Mobay) or Kingston (Club Kingston) for each leg.
• Book in time. VIP Attractions asks for at least 48 hours’ notice for arrival and bundle bookings, and 24 hours for departure only. It recommends booking as soon as your flights are confirmed.
• Save your QR code. Your booking comes with a QR code; keep it on your phone for faster access at the airport.
• Cancellations made at least 48 hours before travel can be refunded, less administrative fees. If your flight changes, update the details through the site.

Is Club Mobay worth it?

My take: the arrival service is worth it if you’re landing at a busy time, traveling with young kids or older relatives, or arriving for a wedding or honeymoon and want the trip to start smoothly. Waiting in a long immigration line after a flight with tired children is nobody’s idea of a vacation start, and US$50 a head buys you out of it.

Skip the arrival service if you’re traveling light and flexible, or if your resort transfer leaves on a fixed schedule anyway. Some resorts have their own hotel lounges in the airport’s ground transportation hall, where guests wait for the shuttle, so you may not need a second lounge.

The departure lounge is good value if you’ll be at the airport for a while, since meals and drinks at the airport add up fast and the shower is a real treat after a last beach morning. If your resort drops you at the airport two hours before your flight, US$35 gets you through security quickly and somewhere quiet to sit.
