My local take
Here is exactly what has been said about the reopening, and by whom. The Jamaica Tourist Board lists it as “Reopening 2027” with no date. In April 2026 Hyatt told travel partners its seven Jamaica resorts would reopen in early 2027, with a date for each to come later, the Gleaner reported. At JAPEX in September, Melissa Forbes, Hyatt’s director of sales and marketing for Hyatt Ziva and Zilara Rose Hall, told the Gleaner that the resorts will return in phases during the first half of 2027, later than the March 2027 target they had been working to. Travel Market Report’s JAPEX coverage said instead that the Hyatt openings had moved from the first quarter to the second half of 2027. The tour operator Vacation Express says Breathless will reopen for arrivals in April 2027, but is only selling it from June 1, 2027.
Breathless has been closed since Hurricane Melissa in October 2025. It is the adults-only, high-energy Hyatt resort on the Montego Bay waterfront, next door to the two Secrets that Hyatt is combining into Secrets Montego Bay. My take: wait for a firm date before booking a birthday or a group trip around it. I’ll update this page when Hyatt confirms one.
For a social adults-only all-inclusive that’s open now, Hotel Riu Reggae and Hotel Riu Montego Bay on Mahoe Bay share the RIU Party nights, or head to Negril for Hedonism II. More options: the best adults-only all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica and the best Jamaica all-inclusives for singles.

What stands out
- Adults-only, built around a social, party atmosphere.
- Keeps its own identity and about 150 rooms, so it stays a smaller resort than the Secrets next door.
- Close to downtown Montego Bay, on the Freeport.
- Hyatt says its Jamaica resorts are being reworked, not just repaired.
What to know before booking
- Closed: no reopening date confirmed by Hyatt.
- Reported dates conflict, from April 2027 to the second half of 2027.
- Hyatt hasn't published renovated room or restaurant details, so older descriptions may not apply.
- Built for a lively crowd; not the pick for a quiet trip.

Rooms
Hyatt’s team told JIS that Breathless will keep its approximately 150 rooms, and that the renovations enhance the existing buildings rather than add capacity. The renovated room types haven’t been published.
Food & drink
Before it closed, Breathless guests could also use the restaurants and bars at the two Secrets next door. Hyatt hasn’t said how that will work once Secrets Montego Bay opens, so check before you book.
Location
Breathless sits on the Montego Bay Freeport, west of downtown, by the Montego Bay Marine Park and next to the Secrets resorts. The Freeport is also where the cruise port is, on the far side of downtown from Sangster International Airport. For open resorts in the area, see where to stay in Montego Bay.
