The Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall Resort in Montego Bay is a premium all-inclusive resort that caters exclusively to adult visitors. Being adult-only is actually one of its main attractions, as it puts a high value on relaxation for couples. Below is an overview of my stay at the Hyatt Zilara.

What I liked

  • Superb accommodations: rooms and suites are spacious and have a crisp, “clean” design.
  • Friendly staff: experienced lots of smiles and staff who were willing to help.
  • Food options aplenty: all of 11 restaurants to choose from with a la carte dining included.
  • Adults-only: a perfect weekend getaway for just you and your special person.
  • Fun activities: there’s much to fill up every minute of your stay, day or night.

What I Disliked

  • Disappointing beach: it’s a manmade beach that is not big enough to match the resort’s size, plus it’s rocky.
  • A bit pricey: this is expected since it’s rated as a high-end all-inclusive. The Hyatt Ziva next door is a cheaper alternative.

Overall Assessment

Unlike the Hyatt Ziva, which is known for being a family resort, the Zilara is all about catering to the needs of couples who want a relaxing getaway. The pampering treatment begins upon entering the vast lobby, which has an open, airy setting. Actually, for couples arriving from overseas, the experience begins at the hotel’s very own lounge at the international airport in Montego Bay.

The rooms at the Zilara can be described as crisp, pretty, and clean. Light-coloured drapes, bedding and wall colours are all in harmony with the wooden furniture, and there are pops of colour in the sitting area and the rug. Also, at day, the room was awash with natural light coming through the curtained, glass partition, which led out to a balcony. As you can imagine, the view is not the same for every room. Some lower level rooms have the advantage of being swim-out suites. Whichever room you get (or book), though, should be satisfactory.

Anyway, our room, which was a junior suite, came with all the amenities expected from an all-inclusive of the calibre of the Hyatt Zilara. It included a stocked minibar, free Wi-Fi access, a large flat screen TV, and a coffeemaker. In addition, the bathroom was impressive, with a standup bath and a stunning, marble-tiled shower stall with rainfall shower.

I’ve heard of some of the bathrooms in larger suites being twice as big as the one I stayed in, but I was happy with ours. The housekeepers also went out of their way to impress by decorating the bed with flowers, arranged in the shape of the letter ‘Z’ when we arrived, so it was even more special.

Outside, the multi-level pool is where a lot of people hang out and it’s a pretty peaceful place to pass the time. For ultimate relaxation, find a spot near the swim-up bar; if you happen to have butler service, you won’t need to move a muscle. As mentioned earlier, the food variety is immense here and the quality is tops; not to mention drink and liquor choices from the many bars.

I wasn’t a fan of the beach, but the pool more than makes up for it. As far as nightly entertainment is concerned, there are scheduled, well thought out performances every night, which are loads of fun. Finally, if you want the ultimate in relaxation, the Hyatt Zilara has a small,
