My local take

The Courtyard opened in December 2015, the first new hotel built in Kingston in more than 30 years, according to the Gleaner. It sits on Park Close, a quiet side street by Emancipation Park in the middle of New Kingston. At 129 rooms it is less than half the size of the Pegasus, and it was built for business travel: the lobby, restaurant and bar were reworked recently to suit people who work from their laptops between meetings.

My take: this suits the person in Kingston for a few days of meetings who wants a Marriott brand they know and a short walk to the park. It isn’t a resort, and I couldn’t confirm a standard breakfast inclusion, so read what your rate includes before you book. Renovations are still rolling through the meeting rooms, the pool area and the guest rooms, so ask if any work is planned for your dates.

If it’s not quite right, look at The Jamaica Pegasus, the bigger New Kingston landmark with breakfast included and an Olympic-size pool, or AC Hotel Kingston, Marriott’s design-led hotel nearby. For a smaller boutique option, try S Hotel Kingston. More options: where to stay in Kingston.

What stands out

  • A short walk from Emancipation Park in central New Kingston.
  • At 129 rooms, smaller and calmer than the big conference hotels.
  • Lobby, restaurant and bar newly renovated, with work-friendly seating.
  • Jamaica's first LEED Silver-certified hotel, built to use less energy and water.
  • A Marriott brand, so it suits Marriott Bonvoy members.

What to know before booking

  • It's a city business hotel: no beach and not all-inclusive.
  • Renovations are ongoing, with meeting rooms, the pool area and guest rooms still to come.
  • Breakfast isn't confirmed as standard, so check exactly what your rate includes.
  • For a large conference, the Pegasus and AC Hotel publish much bigger event spaces.

Rooms

The hotel has 129 rooms. Marriott’s plan for the hotel described Courtyard’s newer guestroom design, built around flexible space and technology for people who work from the room. The renovation announced in 2026 lists guest room upgrades as a later phase, after the lobby and restaurant. Check the current room types, bed configurations and sizes on Marriott’s official page when you book.

Food & drink

The restaurant has been relaunched as the Kitchen and Bar, with a renovated buffet and bar. Management says it plans to add themed evenings, signature cocktails and live music, aimed at locals as well as hotel guests. Check whether breakfast is included in your rate. For a proper Kingston meal, my advice is to go out: New Kingston and the Hope Road area have plenty of local restaurants within a short taxi ride, and Devon House is the classic stop for patties and ice cream.

Pool & beach

There’s no beach in New Kingston. The hotel has a pool, and its poolside area, The View, is due to be reworked in the next renovation phase. A fitness center was part of the original plan for the hotel. For a beach day, locals head out of town to Port Royal and the cays; check what’s running before you go.

Location

Park Close runs beside Emancipation Park, so you’re in the center of New Kingston’s business district. The Bob Marley Museum and Devon House are a few minutes by taxi, and Hope Gardens is further up Hope Road. Downtown, the National Gallery of Jamaica is worth a morning. The hotel is about 19 km from Norman Manley International Airport. The UK FCDO advises using the South Camp Road route from the airport and not driving in Kingston if you don’t know the city, so a pre-booked transfer is the easy option.
