My local take
Beaches Ocho Rios, the Beaches family resort at Boscobel east of Ocho Rios, closed on May 31, 2025, months before Hurricane Melissa. Beaches says the building belongs to a third party whose owners are planning a major renovation, so this was not a hurricane closure, and Beaches has announced no plan to return to it. Sandals chairman Adam Stewart put it plainly to travel agents in December 2025: they didn’t own it.
My take: if your family loved it, Beaches Negril is the Beaches resort to book in Jamaica now. Beaches is also building Beaches Runaway Bay on the old Jewel Runaway Bay site. Sandals said it would come at the back end of 2026, but as of October 2026 it has no opening date and isn’t bookable, so don’t plan around it yet.
Beaches Negril is a long drive from Ocho Rios, so if you want to stay on this coast, look at Hotel Riu Ocho Rios, a big family all-inclusive with a water park, or Franklyn D. Resort in Runaway Bay, with a vacation nanny included. For Beaches on Seven Mile Beach, see Beaches Negril. More options: the best all-inclusive family resorts in Jamaica.
