Puerto Seco Beach, Discovery Bay: a local's guide

Status unconfirmed; Dolphin Cove habitat temporarily closed. I couldn't confirm it's open right now. Check before you go; the guide below has open alternatives.

No car?

The beach club says you can take a route taxi or bus along the A1 coast road to Discovery Bay. From a Runaway Bay resort, a licensed taxi is easier.

My local take

Puerto Seco is the big public beach at Discovery Bay. Generations of St Ann families grew up spending Sundays on this sand. It was rebuilt as a paid beach club run by Guardsman Hospitality, part of the Guardsman Group, and its own site lists a long white-sand beach, a 150-foot pool, a floating water park, changing rooms, lockers, a restaurant and bar, a spa and water sports. Dolphin Cove also built a dolphin habitat on the property.

Here is the honest status. The Jamaica Tourist Board’s reopenings list, last updated February 9, 2026, shows Puerto Seco Beach as open. The beach club’s booking page was updated in June and lists day packages, from a resident single entry up to VIP cabanas for groups. But most of its website was returning errors when we checked, its published hours don’t agree with each other, and we found no 2026 report from the operator or the Jamaican press confirming normal operations. Dolphin Cove’s own site marks its Puerto Seco programs “Temporarily Closed”. My take: it may well be open, but call before you drive out, and don’t plan a dolphin swim here.

Nearby and open: Green Grotto Caves, just along the coast road, and Ocho Rios Bay Beach, the UDC town beach in Ocho Rios. Inland from here is Cranbrook Flower Forest, though its status is also unconfirmed. For the wider area, see our Ocho Rios guide.

How to get there

Puerto Seco is on the main north coast road (the A1) at Discovery Bay. The beach club puts it about 40 minutes from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, 35 minutes from Ocho Rios and 25 minutes from the cruise port in Falmouth. From Runaway Bay, including Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay and Franklyn D. Resort, it is a short drive west.

What to expect

The beach club’s site describes a 10-acre property with about 1,200 feet of beach, a 140 by 40 foot pool with a poolside bar, four poolside cabanas and ten private VIP cabanas by the sea, each for up to six people with butler service. The WIBIT floating water park in the bay has slides, trampolines and climbing features, and the site says it holds up to 180 people. A PADI 5 Star dive operation offers scuba, kayak and paddle board tours, glass-bottom and snorkeling trips, and towable rides.

Day packages on the booking page include entry with pool, lockers, lounge chair, umbrella, Wi-Fi and the water park, with higher packages adding food, drinks or a cabana. Check current packages and prices on the official site or by phone. The beach’s FAQ says no outside food or drink is allowed and there is no re-entry.

The Dolphin Cove habitat on the property offered encounters and swims, but Dolphin Cove’s site lists those programs as temporarily closed. For a dolphin program, look at Dolphin Cove Ocho Rios instead.

Local tips

  • Call the beach club on 876-913-5655 or email info@puertosecojamaica.com before you go to confirm it is open that day and what it charges.
  • Ask whether the floating water park is running. It is the main draw for children.
  • Ask about events. The beach club hosts parties and private functions, which can change who is there and when.
  • Pair it with Green Grotto Caves, which is close by on the same coast road.

Before you go

  • Status is unconfirmed: the website was mostly down when we checked and published hours conflict, so call first.
  • The Dolphin Cove habitat here is listed as temporarily closed.
  • No outside food or drink, according to the beach’s FAQ, so budget for meals and drinks on site.
  • It is a long way from Ocho Rios or Montego Bay without a car or driver.
  • Weekends and event days can be loud and busy.
