Oh yes Kingston, the capital city of the lush paradise island of Jamaica. It’s home to most of the island’s inhabitants, and you’ll find most business places here too.

You might be thinking there isn’t much to do here, but you’re wrong. In this guide, we’ll walk you through some of the must visit areas and highlight some places we think you’ll enjoy exploring.

Let’s get into it.

1. Visit the Bob Marley Museum

Anyone that knows and loves reggae music should be familiar with the name Bob Marley. He’s a musical legend, an icon that sought to bring peace to a country (Jamaica) that was divided by politics. He remains in the hearts of many, and he is still cherished as a cultural hero.

The Bob Marley Museum located on Hope Road in Kingston was once his old home before it was converted. A trip here will help you to understand more about his life growing up and the inspiration behind his music. It’s a tour we recommend you experience yourself.

2. Visit the National Gallery

While a visit to the gallery may not be everyone’s idea of “fun,” it’s still a great way to spend your day. Here you’ll find art pieces by many well-renowned Jamaican artists like Edna Manley and Carl Abrahams. The artwork on showcase goes many years back, and you’ll see many pieces that paint a picture of the country’s rich history.

3. Chill at Hope Gardens and the Zoo

This is a favorite pass time for many locals on the weekend. During the week, you’ll find college students relaxing under the trees with a book in hand.

Hope Botanical Gardens is the largest open garden area free to the general public. Here you’re surrounded by lush greenery and many different species of plants. It’s an excellent spot for picnics, yoga, and even bird watching.

Adjoining the garden is the Hope Zoo, and though admission here isn’t free, we recommend you visit it (especially if you’re traveling with kids).

4. Check Out Port Royal

Once regarded as the most sinful city on Earth, Port Royal is a place rich with history. In June 1692, half of the area was destroyed by an earthquake and parts of the city sunk into the ocean. If you take a tour here, you’ll be able to explore many of the old buildings from the past and the famous giddy house.

5. Take a Boat Ride to Lime Cay

Just 15-minutes away from the shores of Port Royal is Lime Cay, an uninhabited island with an excellent beach. The “mini island” is the perfect escape for friends who want to experience something different.

6. Check Out the Club Scene

Believe it or not, Kingston is one of the parishes where you’re likely to find a party happening on every day of the week (including Sundays!). If it’s not a street dance of sound kind, you can bet one of the many clubs has something happening. If this is your type of thing then for sure its another thing to add to your list.
