Jamaica’s zip lines are all on the north and west coasts, and every one I can confirm running is part of a bigger adventure package rather than a stand-alone ride. That’s useful to know before you book: you’re usually paying for a bobsled, a waterfall climb or a beach pass with the zip line thrown in. This list covers the zip lines whose operators are selling them on their own websites now, with what each one suits and one honest drawback. Prices are from the operators’ sites and change often, so check before you book.

Mystic Mountain, Ocho Rios

Mystic Mountain sits on the hill above Dunn’s River Road, just west of Ocho Rios. You ride the Sky Explorer chairlift up the mountain, and the Mystic Zipline package adds five zip lines through the forest canopy to the park’s Jamaican Bobsled and Raggamuffin coaster rides. The park lists that package from US$140 per person, and the Gold and Platinum packages that combine the zip line with E-ATVs or Dunn’s River Falls from US$160 and US$179.

It suits families and groups who want a full morning of rides in one place, close to the Ocho Rios hotels. The drawback is timing: the park opens Tuesday to Sunday from 8 am to 5 pm and is closed on Mondays, but last admission for zip line activities is 12 pm, so this is a morning plan. Ask about age, height and weight limits when you book, because they differ by ride. My full Mystic Mountain guide covers the other rides and food.

Chukka Falls Flyer at Dunn’s River Falls, Ocho Rios

Chukka runs a zip line at Dunn’s River Falls, a few minutes west of town. Chukka describes a traverse course with suspension bridges high above the gardens, then a Falls Course that zips over the waterfall itself. On Chukka’s site it comes in combination passes rather than on its own: the web-only Best of Ocho Rios pass (the falls climb, Blue Hole and a free zip line) from US$109, and a climb, zip line and catamaran sail pass from US$139, both with transfers from Ocho Rios, Runaway Bay and Falmouth.

It suits cruise passengers and first-timers who want the falls and a zip line in one morning. Chukka’s limits for the climb, zip line and catamaran pass are a minimum age of 6 and a maximum weight of 265 lb, with closed-toe shoes required. The drawback is the crowd: Dunn’s River is one of the busiest attractions on the island, and cruise-ship days are packed.

Chukka Ocean Outpost at Sandy Bay, west of Montego Bay

At Sandy Bay in Hanover, on the coast road between Montego Bay and Lucea, Chukka’s ocean zip line starts from an old guango tree, runs across floating platforms and ends with a hammock line into the sea. Chukka bills it as the only zip line that goes over and into the ocean. It’s included in the Ocean Outpost Pass, listed from US$163.90 per person with transfers from Montego Bay and Negril, which also covers the horseback ride and swim, ATVs, snorkeling and a party catamaran. The web-only Best of the West package, with the zip line, a catamaran or snorkel trip, a truck safari and rum tasting, is listed from US$129.

It suits travelers staying in Montego Bay or Negril who want a beach day with some adrenaline. Minimum age is 6 and the zip line weight limit is 265 lb. The drawback: Chukka warns the outpost can be crowded at peak times with waits for popular activities. See my Chukka Sandy Bay guide.

Chukka River Outpost at Good Hope, near Falmouth

Good Hope is an old estate in the Martha Brae valley, a short drive inland from Falmouth in Trelawny. The zip line is one of the activities in Chukka’s Eco Explorer Pass, listed from US$139 with transfers from Falmouth and Montego Bay, alongside an e-bike ride, river tubing, rum tasting and a waterslide. The zip line has a 265 lb limit and a minimum age of 6, and closed-toe shoes are required.

It suits families and Falmouth cruise passengers who want a full country day rather than one big ride. The drawback is that the zip line isn’t the headline here: if zip lining is the main thing you want, Mystic Mountain or Sandy Bay gives you more of it. My Chukka Good Hope guide has the rest.

Closed or unconfirmed

  • YS Falls canopy, St Elizabeth: the falls are open, but the official rates page says the canopy zip line is closed until further notice.
  • Jamwest Motorsports and Adventure Park, near Negril: the park’s website still lists a zip line tour, but I couldn’t confirm that the zip line is running. Call the park on 876-475-7588 before you plan around it.
  • Yaaman Adventure Park, east of Ocho Rios: its home page mentions a zip line, but none of its current activities or packages include one.
  • White River, Ocho Rios: if you see an older listing for a canopy tour on the White River, check it carefully. Chukka’s White River Valley park was listed as closed on the Tourist Board’s February reopenings list and isn’t on Chukka’s Jamaica site now.

Which zip line to pick

My take: in Ocho Rios, Mystic Mountain is the better zip line day, because you get five lines plus the bobsled, and the Chukka Falls Flyer is the one to add if Dunn’s River is already on your list. From Montego Bay or Negril, Sandy Bay’s ocean zip line is the most unusual ride on the island. Several of Chukka’s passes also include a catamaran sail, and my guide to catamaran cruises in Jamaica covers the boats by area.
