What I liked
- Accommodation: nice, sizable and comfy rooms.
- Quiet: it’s so peaceful here.
- Natural setting: ideal for nature lovers.
What I disliked
- Clothing prohibition: nude beach and pool only accessible if you go naked (but some people like it this way)
Overall Assessment
Unlike many of the newer all-inclusive hotels on Jamaica’s North Coast, Couples Sans Souci Resort has an interesting story and long history. It started out over 50 years ago as a luxury apartment complex and has retained much of its looks (outwardly) since then. It’s also a destination that is known for its love affair with nature – winding trails, secret paths, lush vegetation, and natural water and rock formations. Many visitors are pleasurably overwhelmed by just the scenery alone.
Others are awed by the knowledge of the number of celebrities who have passed though, including Oprah Winfrey and Angela Bassett (who have suites named after them).
The rooms here are spacious and warm, featuring soft, pastel-y colours and bright furnishings. The one-bedroom suite I stayed in had its own private balcony (and a good but distant view of the sea), although I think that is standard with all suites. The room also comes with a king-size bed, a flat screen TV, a mini fridge, and many of the modern features you could expect from a top all-inclusive, including free Wi-Fi. The bathroom was pretty clean in looks as well, if not immaculate; the walk-in glass shower enclosure was particularly stunning.
As it relates to activities, there are tons of ways to pass the time, including nothing of course. By the way, all-inclusive really means everything at Couples Sans Souci. The cost not only covers food and drinks, but also includes water sports, trips to Dunn’s River Falls and other attractions, tours, and various other activities. There’s also nightly entertainment on the property, a games room, and an always-open internet café.
I spent a lot of time exploring the natural wonders of the property, but I also headed to the beach. As mentioned before, there are two beaches, one of which is only for nude couples. I wasn’t aware of this at first until I saw the sign, which wasn’t a bother, considering that the hotel is strictly for adults. Plus, there are many other places to swim on the property, including several small pools with their own swim-up bars.
Another great activity to try out is an out-of-body massage/pampering session in one of the tree house, jungle-style treatment spas – amazing!
The food at Couples Sans Souci is straight up top-notch. There are three restaurants and, while there is not a great variety, there is enough (I think) to please the palate of the most discriminating guest. Drinks are also top-shelf and in abundance, whether you want to indulge in fine wine or exotic mixed drinks.
