Little Ochie

Hands down, Little Ochie, is, in my opinion, the BEST place to enjoy seafood (especially the Jerked fish!)

Created in 1989 by Evrol Christian, who is affectionately known as Blackie, Little Ochie has become one of Jamaica’s most well-known and well-loved eateries. Initially just a one person operation, more than 30 employees from the local community now staff the restaurant, with Blackie there to add his secret spices and ingredients to your meal, to ensure you have a one of a kind experience at his establishment.

For more than a decade, the Little Ochie chefs – Coute, Butty, Spending, Canai, and Dennis – have been delighting patrons with their exquisite and unique creations, turning out a seemingly endless stream of fish and seafood, which are selected by the customer from the freezers in the dining area and prepared just how you like it.

Whether you would like your fish flame roasted on an open fire, baked in foil, steamed or escoveitched, all can be accommodated. If you would like lobster, you can try it in a garlic butter sauce, roasted, barbecued, boiled, or curried, served on a bed of fresh vegetables to your liking. Little Ochie’s menu is complete with conch and octopus which can be prepared as a stew or a curry dish, and can be barbequed, brown stewed, or fried. Traditional bammy (or bami), a Jamaican cassava flatbread, is offered with every dish served.

What began as a secret seafood lover’s haven in Alligator Pond has now grown into an internationally renowned restaurant. In the wooden bungalow that serves as the main building, the chefs word around the Operation Base, which is the kitchen – the heart and soul of this restaurant. The chefs are an all-male team with many years of experience in working with a pimento wood fire and a large skillet.

The family fun and retreat area make this the perfect place whether you are traveling as a couple, with friends, or with your children, where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the cities and relax in the calm ambience created at Little Ochie.

The restaurant is located miles a few miles from Mandeville, and despite the out of the way location, it is where locals, visitors and celebrities alike can enjoy letting their hair down and unwind. Many people are sick of eating the typical fare offered at westernized establishments, longing for authentic traditional dishes featuring roast yam, peppered shrimp, fresh fish, jerk pork and chicken, bammy, and spit-roasted chicken to interrupt the monotony of their normal diets.

Little Ochie offers everything that the experimental traveler desires – a light breeze from the ocean, cold beers, and decadent seafood, packed to the brim with colorful flavors and aromas. The wood and thatched building that houses the restaurant hugs the white sand beach where the waves tickle the shore. For a truly authentic Jamaican experience in a simple and rustic environment, you will not be disappointed by this gem.
