Bamboo Rafting Adventure in Jamaica

Share with someone:

There are two types of adventures one can experience in Jamaica. You have the exciting, heart-thumping activities such as cliff diving at Rick’s Cafe and then there’s the calm, stress-relive you get from river rafting.

Located on the north coast of the island, in the parish of Trelawny, is the Martha Brae River. One of Jamaica’s breathtaking spots to be at one with nature and absorb its awesomeness.

Here, there’s a rafting tour that has been on offer for locals and tourists for over 30+ years. It’s one of the most fun, unique, and relaxing rides you’ll find anywhere on the island. The adventure lasts about 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 mins and is done by highly qualified “raft captains.” They guide the bamboo raft through the twists and turns of the river while you just sit back and take in the sights.

That’s right; this tour involves hopping onto a thirty-foot bamboo constructed raft with a seating area made for two persons.

You’ll want to bring your camera along as this is one experience you won’t want to forget. Be prepared to take in nature’s beauty while you admire the wildlife all around you. It’s perfect for a family outing (many rafts may be necessary) or just for romance. Can you imagine sailing down there with your loved one? (You’re thinking about it now aren’t ya?)

The Rafting Tour Details

Martha Brae Rafting is open to the public daily from 9 AM – 5 PM with the last raft tour starting at 3 PM. There are more than enough “raftsmen” available, so there won’t be much of a wait when you arrive.

It costs roughly $60 USD or $7200 – JMD and this covers up to 2 people. If you’re traveling solo, there’s nothing wrong with that (you can get a raft for yourself!)

Guides are highly qualified and licensed so if there are any issues or if you have any questions they are more than happy to answer them.

What Should You Wear?

Dress comfortable. It’s recommended that you wear a t-shirt and shorts. You can opt for comfortable slippers but sneakers are recommended (water shoes would serve perfectly here).

Your bathing suit would be a nice add-on as well as you may get the opportunity to enduldge in a little swimming. A full list of items you can consider bringing is found here.

Who Has Been Here Before?

Since it’s opening, the location has seen hundreds of people including quite a few celebrities. Some of the names on the list include: Chuck Norris, Lennox Lewis, Kenny Rodgers, Queen Elizabeth II and the list goes on.

You shouldn’t need much more information to be convinced that this is the perfect place for you to see the next time you’re here.

When you visit, be sure to take a few photos and share with us so others can see the joy you experience yourself.

As always, happy vacationing!
