Sandals Ochi

Sandals Ochi Beach Resort is not your typical all-inclusive destination. It promises (and delivers) an exceptional experience that rivals many of its peers on Jamaica’s prime north coast and west end tourism belt. Below is my summary of the resort after a recent trip there.

What I liked

• • Regal accommodations: large, well-dressed rooms and suites that give an at-home vibe.
  • Food choices: there are all of 16 restaurants on property offering a wide variety in cuisines and food types.
  • Plenty of activities: whether you want to be a homebody or a busybody during your stay, there are plenty of ways to pass the time on or off the property.
  • Water paradise: over 100 pools combined throughout the property, along with a clean private beach, make this resort a water lover’s paradise.
  • Adults-only: no children around, so it is reasonably quiet.

What I disliked

• Property size: getting around can be a bit hassling although there are shuttles.

Overall Assessment

The Sandals Ochi Beach Resort is set on a sprawling 110-acre property and consists of 529 rooms/suites. In fact, there are nearly two dozen different room types to match the pockets and tastes of guests. Also, the main road splits the property into two sections – the Riviera Seaside Village next to the Ochi Beach Club, which is both nearest to the beach, and an All-butler Village that also has a Great House.

The latter section is set back into the hillier section of the resort and offers guests a more extravagant experience. For example, many of the guests in this area have access to semi-private pools that they only share with three other guests.

When it comes on to accommodation, even the most basic rooms are a grand affair. There are lots of polished wood, including the four poster king-size beds, crown mouldings, and on furniture pieces. The rich accents are tempered by crisp white linens, along with warm, neutral tones in the walls, rugs, and tiles.

Additionally, all rooms come with the standard free Wi-Fi, stocked minibars and mini fridges, AC, 40” flat screen TVs, coffeemakers, and microwaves. All rooms also come with private balconies, many of which offer stunning views of the ocean or property. If you book a Butler Suite, you also get a number of perks, along with, surprise, a butler to answer to your every need.

Outside of that, all-inclusive covers meals and premium drinks at all 16 restaurants and 11 bars. I must add that guests who know of the speakeasy phenomenon can also have this experience at Sandals Ochi.

As mentioned earlier, there are tons of activities at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort. In addition to just chilling by the main pool, smaller public pools, or even the smaller semi-private ones, you can also enjoy a round of golf, a tennis match, a horde of water sports, glass bottom boat rides, and scuba diving, among other pastimes.

There are also unexpected parties that pop up at any time of the day, as well as nightly entertainment activities, as well as the option to get relaxing treatments at the Red Lane Spa. Topping it all off, the resort is just minutes away from downtown Ocho Rios and close by to some attractions so that you can find fun off the property as well.
