Franklyn D. Resort

Family-friendly hotel built for the enjoyment of kids. Nanny service mean adults can get time away for themselves. Lots of stuff to do and enjoy while here…

If you have kids and want to take them somewhere that will allow you to have some alone time with your special person, you might want to book a getaway at the Franklyn D. Resort.

While I don’t have children as yet, a visit to the FDR, as it is often called, was still a reasonably pleasant experience. Below is an overview:

What I liked

  • Decent rooms: clean, cozy and homely is how I would describe the suites
  • Lots to take in: have fun with various water sports and nightly entertainment
  • Food choices: four restaurants serving delicious menu options
  • Staying connected: for guests who want to keep an eye on business, it’s easy to stay plugged in via free Wi-Fi, an internet café and satellite TV.
  • The service from the staff is exceptional.

What I disliked

  • Not much else to dislike except it can get noisy (it’s a family resort that caters heavily to kids) and the main beach is tiny but a larger one is accessible just next door.

Overall Assessment

Trip Advisor has recognized the Franklyn D. Resort as a Traveler’s Choice hotel for family vacations, and it’s not hard to see why.

With personal nannies included in the cost of the hotel fee, parents can rest assured they will have time on their hands to have some fun while their young ones are being taken care of.

The friendliness of the staff is also well-known, as well as the fact that there are tons of activities to go through for everyone.

With all 78 rooms being suites, accommodation at the FDR is quite comfortable. Note that not every room has ocean view, but all are spacious as far as I know, and close to the beach.

Design-wise, the suites are not showy but are tastefully designed with muted wall colors, wooden furniture, and pops of color in items such as sofas and wall art. As they are suites, there is a kitchenette (which you might never really need), as well as mini-fridges in some rooms, and coffee makers, along with other amenities. The bathroom was elegant enough and appealing.

Outside the suites, the FDR is abuzz with activity, especially at daytime. Kids can take part in games of tennis, a 100-ft. Waterslide, basketball, fishing, and many other activities.

Adults can take advantage of pools, bike riding, walks, glass-bottom boats, snorkeling, kayaking, or just hanging out at the beach. There are even events for the entire family, such as an exciting goat race.

Moreover, nightly entertainment is provided, with the children being able to extend their fun at age-appropriate dance parties while adults can also enjoy live entertainment. For parents who want extended time away from the kids, a babysitter can be hired after hours for an extra cost.

As it relates to food, there is plenty of variety on offer. The Kidz Buffet, for one, is a big hit. Adults will not feel left out as there is a la carte dining to be had, covering cuisines that include Jamaican, French and Italian.

There is much more to discover at Franklyn D. resort, including sumptuous massages at the Seagrape Spa, but I will allow you to find out for yourself.
