Lime Cay

Located on the South East coast near Kingston and Port Royal, Lime Cay is a low-lying uninhabited island which is occasionally submerged at high tide. Despite having no facilities and amenities, a visit to the island with a picnic lunch will be more than enough for an incredible tropical afternoon outing, where the waters are unpolluted, and the beach is quiet and clean.

Although Lime Cay is slightly off the beaten track, this hidden wonder will overwhelm you with its white sand beach, warm sunshine, and crystal clear turquoise waters. Due to the lack of tourist infrastructure, you are guaranteed a quiet and peaceful time relaxing on the beautiful tropical beach if you visit during the week. The island is a favorite spot for the local weekend party crowd, where impromptu parties and beach sports create a vibey atmosphere.

To get to the island, you need to take a 15-minute boat ride from Kingston or Port Royal. You can rent a vessel in Morgan’s Harbour or organize with a local fisher for drop off and pick up. Many visitors also choose to sail to the island on a catamaran or yacht.

If you would like to create a paradise of your own, bring along some snorkeling gear and enjoy hours of underwater fun swimming with the rich marine life, where you can see a variety of coral, kingfish, barracuda, and many other colorful sea creatures.

A concession stand offers different lunchtime options, and during season, local vendors also set up shop along the beach. Most visitors use the picnic tables available on the island so that their food doesn’t get sandy. There are no public restrooms on the island, so you have to be prepared for a more natural experience. With the few amenities available, you will find that this is the ideal spot for a family barbecue or a romantic picnic.

Very few travelers visit the island, choosing to spend time where there are facilities to provide them with comfort, but the tranquility of this beach makes up for any lacking amenities.

There are so many things to see and do in Jamaica, but Lime Cay should be on everyone’s list, as it is not only a beautiful natural attraction, but a fun place to relax, swim, snorkel, and enjoy other water sports on a quiet beach with unspoiled waters and views.
