If you find yourself in Ocho Rios, Jamaica then chances are you’ll be relatively close to one of the Caribbean’s Top Attractions.
Located just a stone’s throw away from the popular Dunn’s River Falls, Dolphin Cove is an exhilarating adventure that gives you the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to interact with dolphins, sharks, and stingrays.
Since it’s inception in Jamaica back in 2002, Dolphin Cove has seen thousands of tourists come to Jamaica just for the unique experience of petting and swimming these friendly animals. Being Jamaica’s #1 attraction, I definitely recommend you check it out especially if you’re here exploring the island with family. And just in case your tours find you elsewhere on the island, you’ll be happy to know that there are 2 other locations apart from the one in Ocho Rios.
Back in 2005, a second location was opened in Montego Bay at the Half Moon Palace resort for its guests. Fast forward 5 years later in 2010 and a third location was launched in Lucea.
But let’s talk a bit about some of the tour packages so you can know what’s on offer for you when you arrive.
Firstly, there is an entry fee (roughly US $69) which you must pay to get access to the grounds. This fee covers a wide range of activities that will pretty much keep you busy throughout the day and includes:
- An exciting jungle trail where you interact with birds, iguanas and more (fun for kids!)
- Stingray interactions (and snorkeling!)
- Watching the shark shows
- Watching the dolphins at play
- Mini-boat excursions
- Funny shark show
- Kicking back on the beach (total relaxation!)
- Glass bottom kayaking (see the fascinating marine life!)
If you’re looking to partake in the dolphin show and interact with them yourself, then there are different package options available to you. In this case, you won’t have to pay the $69 but instead just pay for the program, and you’ll still get access to the grounds and all that was mentioned above.
The dolphin adventure program includes several different options:
The Encounter Program
With this program, you get an introduction to the dolphins and learn some interesting truths about them. After this, you’re allowed to caress and accept their playful kisses as you stand in only a few feet of water.
This option is perfect for kids and mom-to-be (less that 5 months pregnant). If you’re also scared of taking the plunge and swimming with them then this option is what I’d recommend.
The Dolphin Swim Adventure Program
If you’re looking for a more personal and close up interaction with the dolphins then I recommend you check out the swim adventure option. It comes at a few extra bucks but the experience you get is more involved.
You’ll be swimming in the deep (life jackets available of course) with the beloved animals sharing dances, kisses, and an overall fun time.
Royal Swim at Dolphin Cove
Think you can manage one? Well, how about two? The Royal Swim lets you play around with 2 dolphins at once. They allow you to grab on to their dorsal fins as you buckle down for the ride of a lifetime. You may even find that they propel you upwards to give you the feeling as if you’re flying.
Of course, the choice you select is completely up to you. But if you’re here to enjoy all this hot spot has to offer then take on the challenge and go for Royal.
