Doctors Cave Beach Club

The beaches on the island of Jamaica are some of the best in the world. You’ll find that hundreds of tourists who visit yearly seek out the best of them frequently.

Like the television advertisements, travel brochures and online websites depict, there are quite a few options available. One of the most popular ones in Montego Bay is the Doctors Cave Beach Club.

You’ll find it in the heart of Montego Bay, on the hip strip.

I remember passing this location quite a few times, wishing I knew how to get access. It had seemed like this private escape for Doctors and the super privileged and certainly intrigued me.

Little did I know, it’s open to the public for a small fee (but more on that later).

The bathing club (as it is otherwise called) has been around from as far back as the 80’s. It was owned previously by Dr. Alexander James McCatty who allowed his friends (doctors included) to bathe and relax (hence the name).

Some 20+ years later it became a part of the community, and a members club was born.

Today, it continues to be a favorite hangout spot for locals and tourists who want to enjoy a peaceful, quiet day on the beach.

The Details and How to Get Access

The Doctors Cave Beach Club is open to the general public daily from 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM.

The cost for entry is as follows:

Adults 12 Years and Older – JMD $600
Children Under 12 – JMD $300

For those interested in becoming a member, you can submit an application expressing your interest. It comes at a yearly cost of just US $250, and this includes a family of four (mother, father and two children under 18).

If you’re going solo and want to grab the benefits for yourself, it’s $150 U.S dollars. Your membership is determined by the board of directors who either approve or disapprove your application at their monthly board meetings. There’s no “special” requirement to be approved though, so don’t worry about that too much.

So just what are the unique benefits that you get for the year?

The special perks include:

  • Unlimited access for an entire year (daily if you’d like!)
  • Access to private changing rooms
  • Access to private showers
  • Access to a members-only lounge area
  • Gym Access
  • Sauna Access
  • Steam Room Access
  • And the list goes on

What facilities are on the property?

Apart from the captivating allure of the beautiful white sand beach, there’s a variety of food and drink selections to choose from. You can rent your beach chairs, and umbrellas for $600 JMD (or 6 USD) and laze around taking in the sun or bring a beach towel, find a little secluded spot on the sand and relax.

The choice is up to you.

There are opportunities for you to snorkel and take in the aquatic life as well. You can rent snorkeling gear, head out and admire the marine life.

Overall, you can be guaranteed a fun and relaxing day when you visit this spot. If you have doubts for any reason just check the countless other reviews online. By the way there’s a number of jamaica all inclusive resorts on the hip strip. So if you stay at one, the beach should be close by.
